Who We Are - What We Do

Who We Are

We are the local council of the Knights of Columbus.  Our council was formed on August 6, 1980.

We meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month in the Social Hall.  In the event that the Social Hall is being used for another function you will need to check our schedule on line at www.KnightsofColumbus7642.org/Calendar.  Our meetings begin at 7:30 pm and are open to all Knights who have gone through the First Degree initiation.  We are a “Service Organization” and as such, are active in programs related to Church, Community, promoting Family, Youth, Vocations, and in supporting fellow members in our Council.

How To Join

There are only two requirements for a man to join the Knights of Columbus:  that he be a practical Catholic as understood by the Church and that he be 18 years of age or older.

Candidates take part in initiation degrees that explain the Knights of Columbus’ four principles:  Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

A candidate is considered a “Knight” after taking his First Degree, but he is encouraged to advance through the Second and Third Degrees and on to the Fourth Degree, whose members promote the virtue of patriotism by serving in honor guards, color corps and promoting respect for country and the flag.

You can join the Knights by contacting Stuart Hall at 425-830-6203 (stu.p.hall@gmail.com) or Mark Mauger at 425-949-7580 (markamauger@hotmail.com).

What We Offer

Fraternity with like-minded Catholic families not only in the parish but throughout the state, region, and even internationally.

A non-profit insurance program, owned and operated by and for members and offering life insurance and annuities which are rated “Superior”.  While the insurance is a voluntary benefit of membership, the Order maintains a staff of full time qualified insurance advisors.

What We Do

Some of the activities that our Council has been involved in are as follows:

Pancake Breakfast

These breakfasts are our major fund raising activities.  We try to schedule several of these each year.  Funds from these breakfasts have gone in the past to the following charities:

Project Rachel.  To support women who chose to have an abortion and are seeking healing.

Birthright in Seattle.  To support their advertisement in the yellow pages.

Morality in Media.  To fund against pornography.

St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Holy Family School Drama Club.

Parish Youth Group Missions.

Crab Feed

This event is usually scheduled the fourth Saturday in January each year.  While the profit from it helps to fund the various donations listed above it is more of a parish social activity in which the Knights donate several hours towards this popular social event.

Parish Picnic

This is the big event of the year and probably the most important one that the Knights do for the parish.  There are a lot of man hours in planning, purchasing of food, supplies, prizes, as well as setting up booths, and preparing and serving the food.  This is a very popular family event with games and other activities to keep the children entertained while the adults relax and enjoy the good food and company.

Hoop Shoot Contest

This is a Free Throw basketball contest for Boys and Girls ages 10 – 14 held in January each year.  Recognition awards are presented in each category.

Pennies for Heaven

You may have seen our Pennies for Heaven Barrel.  Contributions deposited in this barrel go to support vocations to the priesthood. We are currently sponsoring a Seminarian (Brad Hagelin at Mundelein Seminary) with donations to cover his personal needs and keep in contact with letters of support.

Other Parish Activities

Our council in involved in various activities of the parish,

Provide baptismal gifts for all Holy Family baptisms.

Donate to cover the cost of the rental of a bus to the Respect Life March in Olympia.

Provide over 800 carnations to the women of the parish on Mothers Day.

Ushers.  Support the usher program which is open to both men and women of the parish.

Sponsor a Poster/ Essay contest for the 7th and 8th grade classes of Holy Family School.

Help sponsor the Senior Breakfast and Beer Garden during the Fall Festival.

Fun Stuff

While we do have a good time working on the various parish activities we do take some time to have fun in a variety of activities and events.

Family Social and Barbecue.  We try to get together on the 2nd Wednesday of August at the Parish Center to socialize and get to know each other’s families.

Host a Christmas Party for all of our members and their families and have a prime rib dinner, sing Christmas carols and try to Keep Christ in Christmas!

Wives appreciation dinner.  Held on the Saturday before or on St Valentines Day during which the Knights treat their wives to a catered dinner at the Holy Family Social Hall or Parish Center.

A free steak dinner for all of our members in June at which time we renew our friendships.
